Application boom

This spring 3,710 people applied to the university's Finnish degree programmes - a 24.5% increase from last year. The Faculty of Business Studies received most of the applications (2,679 out of a total 4,422), and the Faculty of Technology saw the largest rise in popularity (259 applications; a 41% bump year-on-year). The applicants will be notified of the admission results by the 20th of July.

Keeping it up

Current editor-in-chief Iiris Penttilä was voted by the Representative Council of the Student Union to continue her work at the student newspaper (Vaasan ylioppilaslehti). With the current issue, the paper is going on a summer holiday; the first issue of the next volume is going to be published on September 28th.

Mayday glitch

The students' traditional rowing competition at Vappu was cancelled this year - for the first time in living memory, because of unfavourable weather conditions. No replacement event has been planned, but the organizing student unions expressed hopes for warmer weather for next year's Mayday celebrations.
