Changing opening hours for the Student Union’s office
As of Monday, the 15th of February, the Student Union’s office in Domus Bothnica will be open from Tuesdays to Thurdays, between 9am and 3pm. If you have questions about e.g. student cards or the union’s membership services, drop in in the office hours, or give them a call: 044 324 8977. Outside these office hours representatives of the student union are available for private appointment. The student union expressed hopes that the change in office hours will lead to an improved service level and will not cause any inconvenience.
And the award goes to...
The board of the Student Union of the University of Vaasa (VYY) honours every year one Finnish and one international lecturer, by awarding them the “Hyvä Opettaja” (Good Teacher) and “Best International Teacher” prizes, respectively. For the current academic year, Petri Kuosmanen (lecturer in economics) and Jen MacArthur (lecturer in English language) received the awards. Commenting on VYY’s decision, chairman Visa Kananoja underlined that, apart from being great teachers in the classroom, both Kuosmanen and MacArthur have always been ready to advise students in matters academic or administrational – even outside their office hours.
Rough times for Oulu uni
In a bid to cut operating costs by € 6 million per year, Oulu University is prepared to cut back perks, benefits and salaries, and even to lay off people from its staff. The planned measures might lead to the closure of the university’s campus at Kajaani (a hub of teacher education for 110 years), and they affect about 1.600 employees altogether.
